A lot of patients arrive at a contact lens fitting assuming it is just an extension of their glasses exam. It is not. Your glasses prescription tells us your refractive error. A contact lens fitting goes further: we measure your corneal curvature to find the right base curve, assess your tear film to predict how well your eyes will tolerate a lens, and evaluate the fit of trial lenses while you are wearing them in the office.
A lens that is too steep will trap debris and reduce oxygen. A lens that is too flat will move too much and blur your vision. Getting this right on the first fitting means fewer follow-up visits, less frustration, and lenses that are actually comfortable to wear all day.

Yes. A contact lens exam includes measurements that a standard glasses exam does not, including corneal curvature and tear film assessment. Even if your glasses prescription is current, you need a contact lens fitting before we can write a contact lens prescription.
A first-time fitting typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, including the time you spend wearing trial lenses in the office so we can assess the fit. Follow-up fittings for established wearers are usually shorter.
Yes. Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism and are available in daily, bi-weekly, and monthly options. The fitting is slightly more involved because the lens needs to sit in a specific rotational position, but it is very manageable.
We can fulfill re-orders for established patients with a current contact lens prescription on file. If your prescription has expired — which happens after one year — you will need to come in for an updated fitting before we can place an order.
Yes, when worn as directed and replaced on schedule. The most common issues arise from wearing lenses longer than recommended, sleeping in lenses not approved for overnight wear, or skipping the annual exam to confirm the fit is still correct.
