What it is: SLO stands for scanning laser ophthalmoscopy. It creates a high-resolution image of your retina, macula, and optic nerve.

SLO imaging is a safe, low-light scan that produces detailed pictures of the inside of your eye. Think of it as a high-definition photo album of your eye health that we can compare year over year.
Optomap SLO imaging is a modern alternative to traditional pupil dilation. While dilation requires eye drops that temporarily blur vision and cause light sensitivity for several hours, SLO (Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy) captures a wide, high-resolution image of the retina quickly and comfortably—often without the need for dilation. The biggest benefit of SLO is that it allows doctors to view a much larger portion of the retina, helping detect early signs of eye disease more efficiently. For patients, it means a faster exam experience, clearer vision afterward, and a more convenient visit overall.
